HISTORY OF
MASSAGE
Massage is a healing art that has been
around for millenia. Massage therapy is based on our instinct to rub
areas that hurt. the word 'massage' comes to us from the Arabic root
"mass'h" which means to touch, knead or squeeze.
The oldest
record of massage is approximately 4000 years old from China. These
early accounts detailed the application of massage techniques for
therapeutic purposes.
Through trade and contact with Eastern
civilisation the principles and practices of massage found its way to
the Western world.
Modern massage therapy continues to
re-discover and adapt ancient practices from cultures all over the
world. Massage now enjoys recognition as a natural healing method to
complement medical treatments. Many people now use regular massage
therapy to reduce stress, maintain wellness and prevent
disease.
WHAT TO
EXPECT
Before initiating a treatment you will
undergo full consultation asking about health, lifestyle and areas of
concern.
Treatment takes place on a couch, in a private room.
Waxes or oils are provided to directly massage to your skin. Towels are
also provided to maintain modesty and keep you warm during
treatment.
Massage works the whole body, mediums used help to
work deeper into the muscles. Different massage techniques are used to
warm up muscles, work out any adhesions/knots, stretch out tight muscles
and ease joint pain.
Massage takes an hour and you should
ensure that you are able to relax for a couple of hours post massage to
gain full effect.
